S Jaishankar praises India's rise from one of the poorest countries to the fifth largest economy
S Jaishankar, India's External Affairs Minister, praised the country's economic growth during the last 75 years. According to S Jaishankar, colonialism reduced India to one of the poorest nations, but today India is the world's fifth largest economy.
"India accounted for over a quarter of global GDP in the 18th century." "By the middle of the twentieth century, colonialism had insured that we were one of the poorest nations, but in the 75th year of Independence, India stands proudly before you as the world's fifth largest economy," S Jaishankar remarked.
Jaishankar spoke on India's successes, particularly the fight against Covid-19, during a special 'India@75' Showcasing India-UN Partnership in Action' event.
"Digital technology has successfully advanced the food safety net in recent days." "We've disbursed over $300 billion in benefits digitally, over 400 million people get meals on a daily basis, and we've administered over 2 billion immunizations," EAM Dr S Jasihankar added.
